Bruce, My bike is relatively new: 2600 miles. A couple of months ago, I noticed that the head pipe was starting to turn gold near the cylinder. On a hunch, I checked the nuts on the connecting bolts and found them relatively loose: I could actually turn one of them by hand. So I tightened the nuts, polished the headpipe, and have had no more yellowing. You might want to check that connection. Also, I have read -- and I have no idea about the validity of this -- that running lean can cause yellowing of the pipe. (Maybe from increased temperatures?)
